Contemporary Egyptian artist Reem Gamal Abdel Nasser with some of her paintings

Reem Gamal Abdel Nasser is a visual artist born in Cairo in 1987. She earned a bachelor's degree with honours in mural painting from Cairo University's Faculty of Fine Arts in 2009. Reem focuses on oil and acrylic paintings as well as mixed media. Besides that, she uses charcoals and pastel colours and also designs glass murals. Her work has been exhibited in several group shows.

Reem's artistic concept revolves around women in general and the Egyptian woman in particular since women have a role in art and art has a role in the life of a woman. She shows women in Egyptian folklore since customs and beliefs are embodied in traditional weddings, engagements and other rituals, even in henna tattoos.

As an artist, Reem is a mediator. She conveys her experience as a woman, a mother and a wife as well as a working artist. For her, the Egyptian woman is a model for a warrior woman on all fronts. She says:

"I see the expression of heritage not only in the roots and repercussions of the past. My intention and goal is to document it by combining the present with the past and achieving a smooth transition from one form to another - with the challenges of the modern era and technology.
My topic comes from this connection. At the same time, I attempt to evoke the originality and beauty of our heritage and the society, in which women always had a major role.
Some of my very personal experiences and family memories have influenced my artworks and still do. I express my thoughts. I express the nostalgia that I feel for the past originality, heritage and forms of our beautiful ancient legacies and their evocation to link us together in life as we are linked to our grandparents. I also express the issues of a woman, the pressure on her life, which overcomes her from the start. I aim to restore her intrinsic activities and celebrations with her own friends. I let dance and fun merge into the Egyptian heritage with its dances, songs and music and offer a contemplative and dreamy view of the woman's goal and future.
My style tends to expressive strong, bold and fast lines, which reveal the spirit of the times and the nature of life while using unexpected new and different materials."

Reem Gamal Abdel Nasser's artworks have a serene and cheerful effect, telling stories of mostly happy days in an ideal world.
