The Egyptian Legend of Goodness is different from Ayman Kadry's other works as it is executed in raised relief. However, it carries the same authentic Egyptian character, for which he is greatly appreciated. Ayman is deeply affected by his surroundings in southern Egypt, especially by his hometown Luxor, from where the ancient Egyptian pharaohs descended, and inspired by all the impressive monuments and legends his ancestors left behind. Ayman's nostalgia caused him to connect the here and now with the past: to compose his works in parallel lines arranging scenes one above the other, known from ancient Egyptian tombs as registers; to show people's face, waist and limbs in profile, but eye and shoulders frontally; to apply simple techniques and to use geometric and floral motifs as well as ancient Egyptian symbols - a fish, for example, represents goodness and prosperity, and a cow the Goddess Hathor.
When Ayman Kadry visited the town of Burullus, a town in the Nile Delta famous for its oldest and second-largest natural lake in Egypt as well as for its people, who make fishing boats and exporting them to many countries, the idea came to him to design Ahl al Burullus. By creating this artwork, he imagined that the people, who make their living by fishing and hunting, still use the spirit of the ancient Egyptian Fish-Goddess Hatmehit for help, care and guard and that she overlooks even the contemporary life with its people, their lake and its fish.
By the way, in recent years, Burullus became famous for one more reason: art! Since 2015, Burullus is hosting the annual Burullus Symposium For Drawing On Walls And Painting On Boats - an international mural painting festival inspired by the fishing culture of the town as well as the ancient Egyptian heritage. In the photograph, you see Ayman participating in that symposium in 2019.
